Care-Giver/Parenting Mentoring Workshop

Ezrah was excited to launch our first workshop in collaboration with Valcare as part of the Drakenstein Child Protection Programme, one of the many coordinated efforts fueled by Valcare.

This event, which took place on the 16th of February 2018 focused on mentoring parents with regards to the building blocks of positive discipline and is part of a series of workshops to strengthen child protection initiatives and collaboration.

This workshop is beneficial for different client contexts as the tools can be contextualised for specific clients. Good parenting is essential to child protection and therefore we saw the need to equip mentors working in the community with skills to help parents build the building blocks of quality child care and positive discipline. We were delighted that 13 organisations from Drakenstein with 8 organisations outside Drakenstein attended the workshop, totaling 36 participants in total. We were especially grateful about the attendance of many social workers and social auxiliary workers as they are at the frontline of child protection.

Here is the feedback from Nicolette van der Walt, the National Manager for Child Protection (ACVV):

“I have only received positive feedback from our social workers who attended Ezrah’s parenting workshop last Friday. In fact, very positive feedback, e.g. ‘the best parenting workshop I’ve ever attended, it was extremely useful,’ etc. etc. It provides me with immense pleasure that the investment in our staff’s training leads to such satisfaction as they are empowered through quality training. From my side, a very big thank you. I am so happy that I’ve decided to invest in this training opportunity and I hope that we can have many more such ‘working agreements’ in the future. Thanks so much – and well done!”

Our partner in this programme, Valcare is a Impact Funding Platform activating and enabling social change in the community.
