ANIMAL HEROES BOARDGAME

Goal:

The goal of this board game is:

  • To teach children about responsible animal care and the five domains of animal welfare (nutrition,
    environment, health, behaviour, and mental state).
  • To encourage empathy, kindness and compassion for animals while helping children make
    connections between their actions and animal well-being.

Materials needed:

  • Game board – printed on A4 or A3
  • Game cards – print on different coloured board (green, red, yellow and blue) and cut into cards
  • 1 pair of dice
  • Game tokens (different coloured takens)
  • Timer (optional)

Instructions (page 3):

1. Divide players into teams of two or more.
2. Each team chooses a token. Place it at the starting point on the game board.
3. Take turns rolling the dice to move the token forward. Look at the colour of the block the token
lands on.
4. Pick a card according to the corresponding colour. If it is a “draw it” or “act it out” activity, one
person of the team must do it while the other players in his/her team guess the answer. For the
“true or false” or “quiz time” cards. the facilitator reads the questions for the whole team to
answer.
5. If the team answers correctly, they can roll the dice again for ONE more activity.
6. If the team is unable to give the correct answer, the next team takes their turn.
7. The team who reaches the finish line first, is the winner.

  • Fine and gross motor skills: Drawing builds hand-eye coordination, while acting in charades
    supports body movement and expression.
  • Language & literacy: Asking and answering questions develops vocabulary, comprehension, and verbal skills

MEMORY MATCH GAME

Goal of the game:

To find and match all pairs of identical cards by remembering their positions.

Levels:

This game has the following levels:

  • Level 1 (Age group 4-6 years): 8 cards to find 4 pairs.
  • Level 2 (Age group 7-9 years): 14 cards to find 7 pairs.
  • Level 3 (Age group 10+): 20 cards to find 10 pairs.

Instructions:

1. Click start to begin the game.
2. Click on two cards at a time to try to find a matching pair.
3. If the two cards match, they will stay on the screen.
4. If they don’t match, the cards are flipped back face down.
5. The game continues until all pairs have been found.

Skills involved:

  • Memory: Develops short-term memory and attention span.
  • Concentration: Improves concentration and focus.
  • Visual recall: The ability to remember the pictures on the cards and to mentally visualise the position of the cards.
  • Strategic thinking: Involves planning, problem-solving and making decisions.

ANIMAL HEROES FROGGY JUMPS QUIZ

Goal of the game:

The goal of Froggy Jumps is to help the frog reach the finish line at the end of the pond by correctly answering quiz questions and jumping forward with each correct answer. 

Instructions:

  1. Click start to begin the game. 
  2. There are 5 questions and you have 18 seconds to answer each question.  
  3. Read the question in the white block.
  4. Read the different options in the leaves.
  5. Decide on your answer and click on option A, B or C. 
  6. If the answer is correct, the frog will jump forward.
  7. If the answer is wrong, the frog will fall in the water. 
  8. The game continues until all 5 questions are answered.
  9. Your score will be given at the end of the game and you will be given 20 000 points for each correct answer.

  • Memory and focus: Recall facts and information to answer questions correctly.

ANIMAL HEROES YES (SAFE) OR NO (UNSAFE) GAME

Goal:

The goal of this game is to decide between safe and unsafe behaviours around pets. 

 Instructions:

  1. Click start to begin the game.
  2. Look at the image and read the behaviour above the image or on the image itself. 
  3. Decide if this is a safe action (yes) or an unsafe action (no).
  4. Click yes or no. 
  5. If your answer is correct, you will earn points.
  6. If your answer wrong, the image will flash in red. 
  7. The game continues until all the questions are answered.
  8. Your score will be given at the end of the game and you will be given 10 000 points for each correct answer.

  • Reading and comprehension: Improve reading skills and the ability to understand the content.
  • Critical thinking and decision making: Analysing situations and making a decision.
  • Safety awareness: Identify unsafe behaviour and recognising safe behaviour.

EMOTIONS AND EXPERIENCES GAME

Goal:

The goal of this game is to pair situations of animals with their feelings or experience of that situation.

Instructions:

  1. Click start to begin the game.
  2. Look at the image and read the situation next to the image on the left side.
  3. Pair this situation with the emotion or experience on the right side. 
  4. Click on the image and then on the word on the right. 
  5. If your answer is correct, the image and word will connect.
  6. If your answer wrong, the image and word will flash in red and not connect. 
  7. The game continues until all the images are correctly paired. 
  8. Your score will be given at the end of the game and you will be given points for each correct answer.

EZRAH ANIMAL HEROES CHALLENGE (VIDEO PRESENTATION)

Goal:

The goal of this game is to answer the different questions to explore important facts regarding pet care.

Materials needed:

  • Video presentation

Instructions:

  1. This game is in video format and can be used with large groups. 

  2. The facilitator will start the presentation and could stop the video after each question to allow participants time to answer the question or solve the word challenges. 

  3. Participants could be divided in groups or answer the questions individually.

  4. The facilitator could keep score if participants play in groups to determine which group had the most correct answers.

  • Communication: Active listening and speaking clearly to share the answers.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving: Thinking through questions, analysing possible answers.

  • Concentration: Staying focused during the quiz.

  • Teamwork and collaboration: Working together to solve questions.
